Sugarmill Woods is a 7,000-acre, deed restricted community in Citrus County, Homosassa, Florida.

Sugarmill Woods was the first residential community in the world to recognize environmental and ecological concerns. One-third of Sugarmill Woods' acreage was left as natural greenbelts.

The concept for Sugarmill Woods was easy to summarize:  All homes will back to either wilderness common area or a golf course.

Beautiful oak and pine trees, native palms and cactus, 50 species of birds, and a natural habitat for the gopher tortoise, white-tailed rabbit, fox squirrel, deer, raccoon, fox, bobcat and an occasional black bear make Sugarmill Woods a haven of natural serenity and a model residential community where nature and man live together in harmony.

Sugarmill Woods high grade appearance and property values, central water and sewer, "priceless greenbelts', and diverse social activities and amenities, make Sugarmill Woods unique in many ways.  Residents literally hail from the four-corners of the world and find Sugarmill Woods a great place to call home.

On Florida's Nature Coast

There's a quiet place--as in no crowds and traffic -- that's just 42 miles from the greater Tampa Bay area and only 65 miles from the tourist-congestion of the Orlando area.

Called Citrus County, it is the gateway to the Florida's pristine Nature Coast. Seven rivers run through this uniquely unspoiled part of the state, with each one fed by crystal waters that rush up from deep underground springs.

It is also home to a very fine golf course community, Sugarmill Woods.

The rich Citrus County area also offers Sugarmill Woods residents and guests a wide range of activities, including 30 parks, 11 golf courses, 10 marinas, nine campgrounds, two beaches and a game preserve, all within 30 miles of their doorsteps.

Championship Golf by a Champion

The championship, 18-hole golf course at the community's Southern Woods neighborhood was designed by a champion, three-time U.S. Open champion, Hale Irwin. Complementing the course are extensive practice facilities, including a large putting green, driving range and chipping and sand trap area.

Hale Irwin designed the course at the Southern Woods neighborhood.

What makes this course different is the way it was carefully sculpted to preserve the wooded environment and how it takes full advantage of the rolling terrain. The result is a scenic, challenging course.
